Taiwan's total land area is only about 36,000 square kilometers (14,400 square miles); it is shaped like a yam that is narrow at both ends. It lies off the southeastern coast of mainland Asia, across the Taiwan Strait from Mainland China-- a solitary island on the western edge of the Pacific Ocean. To the north lies Japan; to the south is the Philippines. BUS :
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in Taoyuan County is Taipei's main gateway and is a 40-minute ride away from the city center. There are two terminals in the Airport (Airlines in Terminal One / Terminal Two). Four bus companies, Kuo Guang Bus, Free Go, Air Bus, and Evervoyage, operate a shuttle service every 15 to 30 minutes to and from Taipei from 5:30am to 1:30am. The one-way shuttle fare to or from the airport range from NT$120 to NT$150 per passenger (Bus routes to/from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport). The bus usually has two major stops: the parenthesis is always separated before and after with a space. Taxis queue outside the Arrival Halls of both terminals. The service is also provided 24 hours a day. Airport Taxis charge according to the meter plus a 50% surcharge (highway tolls not included) and typically costs around NT$1,100 to Taipei. There is a car rental counter, operated by several of rental companies at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. Foreign visitors need an international driver's license to drive in Taiwan.

Taxis :
Taxi queues are outside the Arrival Halls of both terminals. To ensure the safety of passengers, only the taxis approved by the Aviation Police Bureau are permitted to operate in Taoyuan Airport. Taxis are available at Taoyuan Airport 24 hours a day.
